What the Ancient Hatchery Does
The Ancient Hatchery merges the Breeding Farm and the egg incubator into one glass-enclosed machine: assign a breeding pair and it automates everything from egg production through high-speed incubation, no separate Egg Incubator required. On top of the convenience, its in-game description notes it increases the inheritance rate of rare skills — making it the best facility in the game for breeding toward specific passives.
How to Use It
- It's the one ancient facility bought with boss rewards: unlocking it costs 8 Ancient Technology Points at level 76.
- Assign a male and female pal as you would at a Breeding Farm, and keep Cake stocked — egg production still consumes it.
- It draws 1,200 power and must be built within your base's radius.
- Pals inside are managed by hologram, so it needs far less open pasture space than the sprawling Breeding Farm.
It Produces Mutated Eggs
The hatchery rolls for mutations exactly like a Breeding Farm — we've confirmed Mutated Eggs coming out of it directly. It accepts the same cakes, so stocking it with Extravagant Vegetable Cake roughly triples the odds, and its sheer breeding speed makes it the best mutation-farming structure in the game. For the rates, the cakes, and what a Mutated Egg actually hatches into, see our Mutated Pals guide.
What the "Required Suitability" Icon Means
The Ancient Hatchery lists a required work suitability, but the icon beside it — three overlapping circles — is one you'll never find on a pal's stat sheet. It isn't a work suitability at all: in the game's data it's the catch-all Anyone value, which the English build labels "All". The wording is misleading. It doesn't mean a pal needs every suitability to work here; it means any pal qualifies, including one with no work suitabilities whatsoever.
The reason the line appears at all is that the breeding pair occupies the hatchery's two worker slots, so the game treats the parents as assigned workers and dutifully prints a requirement for them. The Breeding Farm carries a byte-for-byte identical assignment row, and the same "All" icon turns up on the handful of other stations anyone can operate, like the Hand-Cranked Generator and the merchant booths.
On the Ancient Hatchery, though, the icon seems to be bugged: it blinks red — the game's usual "nobody is assigned to this job" warning — even with a breeding pair in place and eggs actively being produced. The Breeding Farm doesn't do this. As far as we can tell it's purely cosmetic, with no effect on breeding speed or egg quality, so it's safe to ignore.
Tips
A dedicated breeding base built around Breeding Farms and Large-Scale Electric Egg Incubators takes enormous space and constant egg-ferrying; the Ancient Hatchery collapses that loop into a single powered structure. The rare-skill inheritance bonus is the real prize — when you're hunting a specific passive combination, every egg from the hatchery is a better roll than one from the old setup.
